How To Make Getting Dressed Fun: Involve Your Kids In Outfit Choices
Getting your child ready for the day can be a challenge for stay-at-home moms, especially when it comes to choosing what to wear. However, involving your kids in the process can not only make things easier, but also encourage them to express themselves through their style.
Why Is Individuality Important, And Why Does It Matter?
1) Boosts confidence.Giving kids a say in what they wear can help them feel more confident and independant.
2) Encourages creativity. Children get to explore colors, patterns and styles, which enhances their creativity.
3) Reduces power struggles. When kids are involved, they feel more in control which leads to reduced arguments.
4) Teaches decision making. A great way for kids to practice making decisions in a low-stakes environment.
Age-Appropriate Tips
- For Toddlers (2-4 Years Old) * Offer two choices instead of overwhelming them with an entire wardrobe of choices. Let them choose between two pre-approved outfits. * Make it fun by creating a 'weatherboard' where kids can choose clothing and outfits based on the days weather.
- For preschoolers and young children (4-7 years old) * Encourage theme days, like color of the day or pattern mixing. This helps makes things more playful and gets kids more excited about making decisions. * Let kids pick accessories, shoes, etc, so that they can build confidence with small choices.
- For Older Kids (7+ years old) * Start by giving kids full control over weekends and casual outings outfits. This helps prepare kids for more responsibility. * Teach kids about matching clothes, seasonal appropriatness, and how to dress for different occasions. This helps kids learn how to put together complete outfits.
